Monica McDowell

Monica McDowell has the distinction of being the first ordained minister in the United States granted civil rights by a federal ruling. Her first book, My Karma Ran Over My Dogma: Lessons Learned by a Whistle-Blowing Minister Turned Mystic (2007), is a narrative of her journey through these precedent setting legal events into life changing mysticism and a luminous spirituality. You are Light, published in 2011 by John Hunt Publishing and Indiana Publishing in over 14 countries around the world, is a healing meditation workbook, which was followed by Confessions of a Mystic Soccer Mom: A Life Played with Feet in Both Worlds (Synclectic, 2012). A number of McDowell’s articles, spiritual reflections, poems, and book reviews have also been published, most notably in Presence: An International Journal for Spiritual Direction.

A dynamic and inspirational speaker, Monica regularly holds workshops, classes, and retreats for budding mystics and emergent healers in Seattle and the greater Pacific Northwest. She earned her Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary with an emphasis in spiritual care and counseling and graduated summa cum laude as co-valedictorian as an undergraduate at Seattle Pacific University. As the founder of Women's Sanctuary, she led inter-spirituality gatherings for women of all faiths. She currently runs a private practice as an energy healer and has been a minister, spiritual director, and energy healer for many years.
